Its goals are; to represent the Botswana Beauty and Aesthetic Industry, to be an expert voice to government and other sectors, to advocate for benchmark standards, self-regulation within the industry, and to support the advancement of Botswana Beauty and Aesthetic Industry at every level.

Its Vision is to see the Botswana Aesthetic and Beauty Industry becoming a significant contributor to Botswana economy.

Our Story & Experience

Botswana as a country first held its inaugural Miss Botswana pageant in 1966 and after 33 years of execution, the country produced the first beauty queen Mpule Kwalagobe, who was crowned Miss Universe 1999. Following Mpule’s success, another Botswana supermodel Kaone Kario made history at the age of 19 and became the 2005 M-net Nokia Face of Africa.

The third successful Botswana model and beauty pageant is Emma Wareus. She was placed first runner-up to Miss World 2010. Similar to Mpule’s and Kaone’s stories, Emma was the first person from Botswana to receive the award. Notwithstanding, these successful stories, it has been observed that the Miss Botswana pageantry or any other beauty spectacle often struggle financially due to lack of coordination.

The focus has always been on having a fancy and flashy event but lacks the carry over effect which should encompass the queen’s expenses and lifestyle post the event. Consequent to this dichotomy, the Aesthetic Beauty Industry Council of Botswana (ABICOB) was founded.

ABICOB is built on the values of consistency, professional standards, working practices, unity and advocacy. Our aim is to provide an authentic, ethical and supportive community for professionals in the fashion and beauty industries.

More than half of the above professionals are not covered or supported by any industry body. The other half are scattered across industry and non-industry specific associations. The lack of unison leaves the industry exposed in the face of challenges with little to no voice when presenting to government or any other sectors of the economy. This leaves the beauty industry compromised and fighting many independent battles as opposed to one strong one. With the establishment of ABICOB, it is now imperative to unite under one body that that authentically represents the industry. As the saying goes, there is strength in numbers. If we are to be recognised for the advanced industry we are, then the time has come for all people, across all segments of the Professional Beauty Industry to join forces and be heard under ABICOB.
